When C&A Pumps realised the importance of improving our health and safety culture, we - like many organisations - initially concentrated on providing training for middle and higher management, until we realised that our tradesmen and engineers are themselves heavily involved with health and safety decisions at an operational level and are already well placed to help manage health & safety.

As such, and as a licensed provider of IOSH training on behalf of the ECITB and IOSH, C&A decided that we would encourage our operational work force to take the IOSH Managing Safely qualification, which has already been a great success with our team leaders and design apprentices. This initiative has been such a great success that we are now looking to build this training into the third year syllabus for all of our apprentices as we have found them to be more receptive to the training than we ever expected.

Tailored to the needs of the engineering and construction industry, C&A's Managing Safely training is accredited by IOSH. The course covers:

• Legal framework
• Risk assessment & control
• Managing health & safety
• Accident & incident investigation
• Hazards
• Protecting the environment

On completion of the course - which includes a test and post-course assignment, students receive:

• ECITB Certificate of Attendance
• ECITB Certificate of Achievement
• IOSH/ECITB Managing Safely Certificate
