Sintra Sewage Pumping Station
C&A Pumps is a framework contractor for implementing Northumbrian Water’s AMP4 Capital Delivery Programme. NWL have identified a number of sewage pumping stations in need of refurbishment and as a result, C&A has undertaken a number of condition surveys to determine the extent of the work required. C&A was asked to investigate the reasons behind reliability issues and breakdowns at Sintra SPS — a pumping station situated on Salters Lane Industrial Estate, Sedgefield — and to provide a solution to any issues identified. A full condition survey was undertaken by C&A resulting in a number of design proposals — including detailed drawings — being handed to NWL before the final design was agreed upon. With C&A’s proven track record in the supply and installation of submersible pumping stations, it was decided that a new wet-well arrangement would provide the most reliable option to the client. Despite limited space and poor ground conditions on site, the new wet-well valve chamber arrangement was installed without any disruption to local businesses.
The existing building at the site was demolished and replaced with a steel kiosk housing a new control panel, and the surrounding compound was then reinstated to allow maintenance vehicle access. The new station designed, installed, tested and commissioned to NWL adoption standards has eliminated any operational issues for the client. The Sintra project involved:
