The coal operator at Tyne Dock was facing increasing issues with the coal dust produced by their twenty-two metre high, four hundred metre long coal conveyor. Dust from the conveyor was being breathed in by employees, as well as posing problems for the surrounding area - not least for drivers by reducing visibility. The operator decided that a water dust-suppression system was required.

They called upon the services of C&A Pumps to design a pressurised pump system capable of delivering water for the dust suppression mechanism at the pressure and flow rate needed to allow the system to operate effectively.

Working with Dodds Associates and Clancy Docwra, C&A Pumps carried out the work so successfully that it has led to other works from Port of Tyne, carrying out similar work on their own materials-handling applications at their car terminal.
